AE19 - Alesund City Walking Tour
PRICE: ADULT: 23.00 / CHILD: 15.00 EUR
DURATION: 2 Hours Approx.

Alesund is one of the few Art Nouveau towns left in the world. This lovely and unique coastal city can best be enjoyed on
foot together with a knowledgeable guide escorting you through the winding streets, pointing out the many colourful details
of the buildings. You will soon discover the interesting details about both the buildings and the town's history.
The catastrophic fire in 1904 left the town in ashes. There were 10.000 homeless people after the fire that destroyed the whole
centre. The city was rebuilt in Art Nouveau or Jugend Style with provisions and building materials from all over Europe.
You will experience the reconstructed city centre - full of colour and life! Pay attention to the many decorative details on the
buildings. You will feel the close connection to the maritime life in Brosundet harbour area and the busy city life in the
pedestrian area.
After having explored the city centre for approximately 2 hours the guide will walk with you back to the pier.
Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 2 miles over even paved and cobblestone surfaces with inclines. Guests
should be in good physical condition. Low heeled, comfortable walking shoes, comfortable loose clothing, and a light jacket
are recommended. This tour will operate in all weather conditions so participants should take appropriate weather gear with

guardian must accompany children under the age of 16.

Leaving from the pier in Alesund your coach will take you through green scenery along Storfjorden. Your first stop will be the
medieval Stordal Church, known for its interior rose paintings and fresco decorations.
We continue to Liabygd, arrive at Valldal - known for strawberry production, and follow the valley towards Trollstigen - Troll
Path, passing the impressing Gudbrandsjuvet Gorge, 16 feet wide and 80 feet deep with a foaming river at the bottom. At 2.500
feet above sea level, surrounded by dramatically shaped mountain peaks, you will be served your lunch at the Trollstigen
Fjellstue. From the restaurant and the close-by viewpoint you can enjoy the stunning view.
From the highest point of the road (852m a.s.l.) you drive down Trollstigen - Troll Path - with its 11 hair-pin bends to Isterdalen
Valley. You will cross the Stigfoss Waterfall with a drop of 585 feet. Needle-sharp peaks thrust their way 600 feet skywards.
Soon you reach the bottom of the valley, surrounded by wonderful mountains with majestic names, such as The King, The
Queen and The Bishop. The drive then takes you through lush vegetation to Andalsnes, a charming village, and further along
the Romsdalsfjord. You follow the river up the Romsdalen valley to see the highest vertical mountain wall in Europe - the Troll
Wall, 1500 ft high. Before 1965 no-one believed that is was possible for a human being to climb the vertical face of the Troll
Wall. In 1965 a Norwegian and an English climbing team proved otherwise. It took them 14 days to reach the top, climbing
different routes. Since then various routes have been climbed, the routes are often given names after the first ascendents.
Return to alesund passing picturesque villages along the fjord.
Note: This tour is not recommended for guests who have difficulties climbing and/or managing steps. Possible for guests who
are wheelchair confined. Guests must be able to walk 300-400 yards over asphalt roads to reach the various sites, additionally
600-700 yards to reach Trollstigen Viewpoint. Comfortable walking shoes and a light jacket are recommended.
AE21 - Saga Islands & Atlantic Sea Park
PRICE: ADULT: 62.50 / CHILD: 46.50 EUR
DURATION: 4 Hours 30 Minutes Approx.
This tour will be operated in English only.
Leaving the city, you drive through some of the sub-sea tunnels connecting the islands with the mainland.
The island of Giske is known as the birthplace of the famous Viking "Gange-Rolv" or Rollo, who became Duke of Normandy in
911. With its powerful families, Viking Kings and heirs the island was a seat of power in the Viking Age. You stop to visit the
Giske Chapel - a Romanesque marble church dating from the 12th century. It was built as a private chapel for the Giske family.
Its interior was restored in 1756 and has a beautifully carved and painted alter-piece and pulpit.
Continue to the island of Godoy with a visit to the charming and unique little fishing village of Alnes, located on the shores of
the Atlantic. You stop here for a short break at the Alnes Lighthouse to enjoy the magnificent view.
To give you an insight into the multitude of life beneath the waves, you will visit the Atlantic Sea Park, one of the largest
aquariums in Northern Europe and the largest in Scandinavia. The Sea Park is unique since it was built into the coastal
landscape and adapted to modern exhibition principles. Large landscape aquariums teem with ocean life from the Atlantic, with
emphasis on the western regions. Enjoy watching the diver feeding the fish by hand in the large Atlantic Ocean tank.
Before returning to Alesund, you'll make a detour to Mount Aksla, overlooking the town and the surrounding islands.
Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 0.50 mile over varying terrain with steps and inclines at the Sea Park.
